What Back Porch Alley is about...

Back Porch Alley is about music, conversation and good food. What are the roots of community? What are the best gatherings you have ever been to? The best ones always include great food, conversation, and live music.

The Back Porch Alley gives you an opportunity to get together with your friends and families with live music in a comfortable place. The food is good and not too pricey. The music is good, and not too loud. Sit at your tables right next to the musicians, laugh, talk and enjoy the company. We really do hear alot of really good musicians here. You can buy a bottle of wine for $15 - $20, quaff a cold draft or have a cocktail. Back Porch Alley also serves really good drinks without alcohol: sweet tea, and mixer drinks… imagine that!

You can order from the full menu all the way until 10pm. The ribs are smoky true slow cook BarBeQue delicious, order ‘em wet with lots of sauce or dry with dippin’ rights. The catfish comes Mississippi Southern Fried, Blackened or Lemon Pepper Baked. The potatoes come baked, as golden fries, seasoned, as sweet potato fries, or creamy sweet mashed potato. You can get chicken on a stick, fried okra, hush puppies and collard greens done right. The fish and chips are cod or salmon, and the BPA Burger is destined to be voted Best in Bellingham this year.

We want you to hang out. We have many folks already who have come for dinner and spend hours just soaking up the good vibes in the place, they are bringing back their friends and returning for more. We’ve only been open since mid January 2009 and have people coming back numerous times... that’s gotta tell you something.


During the Early Sets the musicians know the BPA has a “what factor” in place, if you have to say “what?” twice in a row, the music is too loud, and we adjust the sound. Clear and clean is best when you are talking to your friends. Sometimes the saxophone or trumpet has to wail, and that’s all right too!

The music starts at 6pm and runs to 9:30 pm for the Early Sets for all ages, so you can have a full evening out (with or without the kids) and still get home to bed by 10-10:30… The Late Sets start after 10pm and you can party hardy with: Club Mixes, Rock, Ska, Blues, Funk, Alternate Rock, HipHop, laugh to some comedy routines, or whatever the mix is that night (check the Music Schedule). It's a House Party after all… the BPA AfterDark!
